Apple Week (Week of 9-12-16)

This week we learned about apples! We read both fiction and non-fiction texts to deepen our knowledge and spark our curiosity! Speaking of curiosity, it was our character trait of the week! Ask your child what it means to be curious and some things they are curious about! Keep reading and take a peek into our week!!

Monday: We continued digging deeper into place value today! We learned how to determine the value of each digit in a 2-digit number. (ex: 43 the 4 is forty and the 3 is 3). We also read a story called The Apple Pie Tree. We reviewed what it means to retell a story (characters, setting, problem, solution, beginning, middle, end).

Tuesday: We read the story Amelia Bedelia's First Apple Pie today! We also learned about the equal sign and the equal chant. Ask your child to recite it to you! (Equal means the same, equal means the same, equal means the same on BOTH sides).

Wednesday: We worked more on place value today and practiced drawing t-charts for numbers and rods and units. Here are some pictures of us working with our partners playing "Place Value War". The kids had to flip 2 cards over and make the largest 2 digit number they could. After determining who had the largest number, both group members drew rods and units for that number.

Thursday: Today we took our first common assessment in Reading! This will come home Friday in progress report folders. Please sign and return it with the folder! We had some cupcakes left over from a birthday Monday and since we all worked SO hard this week, we enjoyed them after lunch in our classroom! We also maxed out our first Go Noodle champ today! This was SUPER exciting for the kiddos! In case you didn't know, Go Noodle is a program that has various "brain breaks" or dance videos. Each time we complete a video or activity, our "Champ" grows. Once we reach 10 videos 5 times, we retire that champ and get a new one! As you can see, we have had a lot of "brain breaks" so far!

Friday:  Today we sampled red, yellow, and green apples and voted on our favorite! We also made applesauce in the crock pot! Take a look at all of the fun we had!

Please review and sign progress report folders and return them on Monday! I hope that homework went smoothly for you this week! Please feel free to call or email me anytime you have questions! I know that by working together, we are setting ourselves up for success!

Enjoy your weekend with your family!! :)
