Bat Week (Week of 10-24-16)
This week our theme was BATS!
Take a peek at our week to see some of the things that we did!
Monday: During our morning meeting, we talked about what an election is and the voting process. Our school implemented a school-wide LDC (the first in the country!!!) called "Count on Me".
Today we started by creating a KWL chart on bats! The kids had a lot of background knowledge on bats already! We read a fiction story named: Stellaluna, and sequenced the story as a class. In Math we reviewed for our benchmark.
.
Tuesday: We talked about authority figures and their roles today. We also made our voter id cards and had a chance to see the 5th grade students that were running for school president.
Today we also read the story: Nightsong. We compared and contrasted it with Stellaluna using a Venn diagram. We also made a text to self connection and wrote about a food that we liked and a food that was disgusting.
Wednesday: We watched each 5th grade candidates speech today and listed the things each one said they would do for our school. We live streamed an assembly where the 5th graders held a debate. Here are some picture of the kids voting for school president! They were SO excited!!!
Thursday: Today we took our first FIELD TRIP!!! Here are some pictures!!!

Spider Week (Week of 10-17-16)
This week we learned about SPIDERS!! Take a peek at our week!
Monday: This week we learned about initial digraphs (2 letters that make one sound) (sh, ch, th, wh). We made anchor charts for each digraph. We dove right in to learning about spiders this week by using a Nearpod presentation. This is an awesome program that allows me to plan lessons for students integrating their ipads! We read a non-fiction article to learn about spiders. In math we continued learning about defining and non-defining attributes of shapes.
Tuesday: Today we started our informational writing on spiders. We filled out a tree map to help guide our writing! We did a grab bag activity in math where we chose a shape and had to describe it to the class.
Wednesday: Today we read a mini book on our ipads about spiders! In math we did Xtra math for the first time. It is a website that allows us to practice our addition and subtraction fluency.
Thursday: Today we made headbands to show all of the things we know about spiders. We also reviewed all that we know about shapes!!
Friday: Today we finally read a fiction story about spiders. We read The Very Busy Spider. We sequenced the story and did a writing activity to tell if spiders were cool or creepy.
