Little Red Riding Hood Week (Week of 3-27-17)

This week we read different versions of Little Red Riding Hood! The kids had fun comparing and contrasting the stories! Take a peek at our week to see all of the fun we had!!!

Monday: Today we read the story: Little Red Riding Hood and made this story map!

We also learned about 3-d shapes and their attributes. We made this anchor chart to help us remember. 


Tuesday: Today we read the story: Lon Po Po and compared it with the original Little Red Riding Hood story. We also completed some 3-d shapes task cards.

Wednesday: Today we read the story Ninja Red Riding Hood and compared it to the original Little Red Riding Hood. We also talked about the nets of 3-d shapes.

Thursday: Today we read the story: Seriously, Red Riding Hood Was Rotten. We compared it with the other stories.

Friday: Today we read the story: Little Dead Riding Hood and compared it with the other stories. The kids chose their favorite version and wrote about why.

We also used toothpicks and marshmallows to make our own 3-d shapes!

Getting "Buggy" With It! (Week of 3-20-17)

This week we learned about BUGS and INSECTS! Take a peek at our week!!! 

Monday: Today we started our week by learning what an insect is and what an entomologist does. We made our own tree map about insects. We listed things they have, are and can do. 

Tuesday: Today we learned about the ladybug and the dragon fly. Ask your child to tell you some facts they learned!

Wednesday: Today we learned about the grasshopper.

Thursday: Today we learned about the bumblebee and the butterfly.

Friday: Today we read the story: Hey Little Ant and wrote our own ending for the book.

St. Patrick's Day (Week of 3-13)

This week we learned all about St. Patrick's Day!!! Take a peek at our week!

Monday: We started our week by doing a close read on St. Patrick's Day! We used evidence in the text to answer comprehension questions. 

Thursday: Today we read There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Clover and sequenced it.

 We also used Skittles to make a graph and answered questions about our data. Here are some pictures:


Friday: Today we made leprechaun punch and did a "how to" writing. Here are some pictures:



We also had an assembly with the 82nd Airborne band! The kids loved it and it was like we were at a concert! 

Upcoming:
-We will not have HFW for the next 2 weeks as we wrap up the quarter and begin the new one

Pirate Week

This week we learned about the -ar sound! We also learned about pirates and how they say "ar"!!! 
Here are some of the books that we read! Ask your child to retell one of the books to you!

In Math we practiced comparing numbers using greater than, less than, or equal to. We are using the symbols as well.

Dr. Seuss Week (Week of 2-27-17)

This week we celebrated Dr. Seuss! Take a peek at our week!

When the students arrived Monday morning, they had a special Dr. Seuss friend waiting at their table for them! 


We read the story: Hop on Pop today and talked about rhyming words. In Math, we reviewed time to the hour and half hour. We also played a game called: What time is it Mr. Fox?
